Govt starts process to appoint eight ambassadors

KATHMANDU: The government has started the process of selecting the ambassadors for the eight nations.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has put forward the selection process of ambassadors to countries that have been vacant for a long time and to the nations where the ambassador’s terms are going to be expired soon.

The Ministry has begun the process to appoint Ambassadors in eight countries including South Korea, Sri Lanka and South Africa.

The government has extended a year term to Arjun Karki, Ambassador of Nepal to America.

Joint Secretaries Tapas Adhikari, Nirmal Kafle, Gehendra Raj Bhandari, Jeevan Shrestha, Ram Kaji Khadka are in line to become ambassadors.

Similarly, Chief Secretary Lok Darshan Regmi is doing his lobbying to become Ambassador of the USA.

The terms of Nepal’s ambassadors to Pakistan, UK, Germany and Belgium are going to be an end in four months.

Currently, Sewa Lamsal in Pakistan, Durga Bahadur Subedi in the UK, Ramesh Prasad Khanal in Germany and Lok Bahadur Thapa in Belgium are serving the post of ambassadors and their term is going to be expired on August and September.

Likewise, the term of Shankar Das Bairagi, Secretary at Ministry of Foreign Affairs is going to be an end in September.

Bharatraj Poudel, Sewa Lamsal, Amrit Rai are in the race to become secretary.

Meanwhile, the government is planning to appoint Foreign Secretary Bairagi or Forest Secretary Bishwanath Oli as a Chief Secretary of Nepal.
